Central to the Firm’s practice for more than a century, Sullivan & Cromwell’s Latin America Group continues to provide clients based in Latin America and global corporations and financial institutions active in the region with practical and effective solutions to their business needs. The wide scope of matters we handle for our clients in Latin America reflects the broad and multi-disciplinary nature of our global practice and sets us apart from our peer firms in the region. S&C understands the economic, social and political realities faced by our Latin American clients and provides the experience and knowledge to help them successfully achieve their business objectives. We create project teams that include lawyers from across practice areas, including: M&A, project finance, capital markets, sovereign finance, restructuring, and dispute resolution, among others. In November 2009, Sullivan & Cromwell received the inaugural Chambers Latin America Corporate/M&A Award (International Counsel). The award is based on the publisher's research for the next edition of
Chambers Latin America, reflecting notable achievements over the past 12 months, including significant work and excellence in client service.
S&C remains at the forefront of all legal developments in the region and regularly handles groundbreaking transactions for Latin America’s largest commercial enterprises. In 2009, this included our work for client Minera Esperanza (Chile) and its owners, Antofagasta plc (U.K.) and Marubeni Corporation (Japan), in connection with financing for the $2.3 billion Esperanza project, the largest-ever mining project financing in Latin America and a deal recognized by The Wall Street Journal for its innovative financing structure in a turbulent financial climate. The deal was also named “Americas Mining Deal of the Year” by Project Finance International.
