S&C’s London office was established in 1972 and is the second largest of the Firm’s 12 offices worldwide, after New York. Its legal staff includes both English and U.S.-qualified lawyers with specialist expertise in debt and equity capital markets, M&A (including private equity), project development and finance, real estate, private equity and finance, U.S. antitrust and E.C. competition law and U.S. litigation. In each of these practice areas, the Firm is well placed from its London office to provide the highest quality service on matters involving English and E.U. law, working on an integrated basis with lawyers from other areas of the Firm's practice.

In addition to its U.S. and French tax practice, Sullivan & Cromwell has a London-based U.K. tax practice which offers commercially sophisticated and globally oriented expertise in U.K. tax matters. In May 2008, leading U.K. tax lawyer Michael McGowan joined the Firm as a partner in our London office, expanding our existing U.S. and French tax capabilities to include English law. Our U.K. tax practice combines an international perspective with U.K. tax expertise.

S&C's London office also specializes in E.C. competition law and has experience advising companies involved in a broad range of industries. The Firm has experience representing companies involved in merger review proceedings before the European Commission, advising complainants on confidential matters before the E.C. and national competition authorities in the E.C.

English-qualified lawyers

We are actively recruiting English-qualified lawyers with strong academic backgrounds, training at leading City firms and with experience in either corporate/M&A, finance (project finance, acquisition/leveraged finance or more general), international capital markets or a combination of these to join our expanding English law practice in London.
