London
S&C’s London office was established in 1972 and is the second largest of the Firm’s 12 offices worldwide, after New York. Its legal staff includes both English and US qualified lawyers with specialist expertise in debt and equity capital markets, M&A (including private equity), project development and finance, real estate private equity and finance, US antitrust and EC competition law, and US litigation.
S&C has expanded its existing English law practice with the recent hire of two leading English qualified capital markets, corporate finance and M&A partners, Tim Emmerson and Vanessa Blackmore, whose practices complement the project and leveraged finance and M&A capabilities of Jamie Logie and Craig Jones. In addition, the recent promotions of EU regulation/antitrust partner Juan Rodriguez and corporate/M&A partner Ben Perry further enhance the reputation of these areas of the Firm’s practice. In each of these practice areas, the Firm is well placed from its London office to provide the highest quality service on matters involving English and EU law, working on an integrated basis with lawyers from other areas of the Firm’s practice.
English qualified lawyers
We are currently actively recruiting English qualified lawyers with strong academic backgrounds, training at leading City firms and with experience in either corporate/M&A, finance (project finance, acquisition/leveraged finance or more general), international capital markets or a combination of these to join our expanding English law practice in London. This is an outstanding opportunity for ambitious solicitors to join a premier global law firm with top tier practices in M&A, finance and capital markets, among other areas.
S&C lawyers have the opportunity to work on an exceptionally wide range of sophisticated transactions. Our associates relish the challenge of involvement in a broad range of matters whilst being encouraged to develop their preferred areas of more specialized expertise. The overarching objective is for S&C lawyers to be highly trusted advisers to their clients by balancing a sound appreciation of the overall context with their specific areas of expertise.
We have a highly international practice and our English qualified lawyers play a key role representing a European and global client base on matters in the UK, elsewhere in Europe, in Africa and the Middle East, the CIS/Central Asia and elsewhere in the world.
As evidenced by recent promotions to the partnership, career prospects for English qualified lawyers are excellent and will continue to be so with the incremental growth of the English law practice. The Firm’s ethos is both to nurture and reward talent and this is an extremely exciting time to be joining us.
Our London office promotes a friendly but dynamic working environment, with a supportive and collegiate culture. Salaries are always at the top end of the “Wall Street” legal market and, reflecting our “one firm globally” approach, English qualified associates are paid the same salaries as their US qualified colleagues. This has been enhanced by the introduction of exchange rate protection which is believed to be the most favourable offered to solicitors working for a US firm in London.
